Thor obviously wasn’t always accustomed to the traditions on earth, so when he first showed up in New Mexico, he had an adjustment period to get acclimated. And in that time, we got some pretty funny moments of Thor not understanding basic things, such as last names.
When he meets agent Coulson, he actually refers to him as “Son of Coul’, since he confused it with the Asgardian naming system, which translates ‘Odinson’ to ‘Son of Odin’.
