Rocks and minerals are incredibly interesting, but being able to identify different kinds takes a lot of hard work and studying. Someone found this rock that seemed to have a tiny square of gold embedded into it, but they knew that was too good to be true. And they were right… mostly.

This is actually a slate rock with a tiny cube of pyrite that was embedded into it. Pyrite is also known as fool’s gold, so it was gold of some kind! Pyrite is known to form in cubes, which explains why it looks like that.
