Black Widow’s prologue, showing Yelena and Natasha’s (briefly) happy childhood in Ohio, takes place in 1995. It might seem like an innocuous choice, as they needed a year where Natasha was a child, but it turns out that SO MUCH was happening all over the MCU during that specific year.

There’s Nick Fury saving S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Alexander Pierce’s daughter in Colombia (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). There’s Thanos’s decimation of half of Zen-Whoberi’s population, and “adoption” of Gamora (Avengers: Infinity War). And, of course, there’s the majority of the plot of Captain Marvel, although you may or may not want to forget that one.
