Among several first appearances, Black Widow also serves as the MCU debut for established comic book character Taskmaster – even though the movie chucks out his entire background. In the pages of Marvel Comics, Taskmaster is Anthony Masters, whose photographic reflexes enable him replicate the fighting style of anyone he observes.
He has been an (anti)hero as well as a villain, clashing with Black Widow, Captain America, and others. In the movie, we first see Taskmaster watching footage of Hawkeye and Black Panther’s fight from Captain America: Civil War. Later, however, it’s revealed he’s a she – Dreykov’s not-quite-deceased daughter Antonia, whose name is probably a nod to the original.
