Marvel often plays a double act, where something might be the most ridiculous thing ever while also causing us to cry ugly. Yelena’s dog is just such an example. During one of their early conversations, Yelena asks Natasha whether she ever wanted kids, and admits that she only ever wanted a dog.
In another, seemingly unrelated scene, Rick Mason provides Natasha with a new identity, under the alias “Fanny Longbottom.” It’s an immature, Bart Simpson-level pun, which Natasha herself points out. In the post-credits scene, though, we see Yelena visiting her sister’s grave. She finally got a dog… and her name is Fanny. We’re not crying, you’re crying!
