Natasha spends most of the movie on the run from Secretary of State Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Despite only sporadic appearances in the MCU – this is his fifth – he was the only holdover from 2008’s forgotten The Incredible Hulk, at least until Abomination returns in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Anyway, despite the small matter of Ross wanting to throw her in the Raft underwater prison, Natasha proves that she’s a great listener. Advising him to take it easy, she asks, “What is this, your second triple bypass?” It actually is, since Ross told the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War about his first heart attack.
