Wow, just when we thought that volcanic eruptions couldn’t get any more terrifying, we see THIS. Don’t get us wrong, this is a pretty amazing photo, and we could honestly see it being on the cover of National Geographic or something. But the idea of lava mixed with lightning just sends chills down our spines! This phenomenon is called, you guessed it, volcanic lightning.
It’s the result of ash particles creating static electricity in the air as the volcano erupts, and it’s something that has been known about for thousands of years. It’s new to us, though.
