There are very few natural disasters that are quite as terrifying as volcanic eruptions. While they may be relatively predictable nowadays, they can still easily sneak up on populations and absolutely devastate them. One of the recent most destructive volcanic eruptions was Mt. St. Helens, and this picture shows just how much of a difference it made to the environment that was hit with the volcanic debris.
It can be hard to comprehend the true power of a volcanic eruption, but this photo of devastated land gets close to putting it into context.
