This was Polish soccer star Gregorz Lato when he was just 24 years old. Even though he was at his peak physical condition, you would be forgiven for thinking that Lato was actually in his 40s.
Like today, athletes in bygone eras would have to leave it all out on the field, or else they didn’t get picked by their coaches. Players were less protected by referees and officials back then, and they had to overcome some serious attempts to injure them on a regular basis.
