Although many people from the past seemed to age much quicker than we do now, that wasn’t totally the case. This soldier was recruited by the Royal Marines in the UK, and it seems he was about 15 years old.
The soldier does look a bit young to be fighting for his country, but he was actually 21 when this portrait was done. Perhaps everyone in the past did have a youthful look on their faces until they were forced to deal with the tough lives our ancestors had.
