When you look at old castle walls, you often see them designed with pointy structures. As you probably guessed, this wasn’t done for show. There were a number of reasons why castles had these types of walls designed.
Firstly, they were able to provide protection to soldiers on the crosswalks, allowing them to get cover when they needed it. Secondly, the soldiers could then easily return fire. And, lastly, it made it more difficult for the enemy to use grappling hooks and ladders for scaling.
