The stress that the people responsible for building castles were under back in the day must’ve been out of this world. Due to the new and improved weapons that were being designed, castles needed to implement top-level protection.
One way of doing so was to use bastions. Bastions were often built into the middle of the main wall and also into many of the corners. They added much-needed reinforcement to combat the cannons that were firing deadly shots of ammo.
