Drinking water is something that most of us probably take for granted, simply because of the easy access to it. For medieval castles, being able to keep and sustain enough water for everyone was always a top priority. It always will be due to the nature of water, but it could’ve turned into a problem back in those days.
That’s why both wells and cisterns (which would collect rainwater) were often utilized. The problem with wells, though, is that they took a while to dig (the supply of drinking water was priceless, though).
