It’s easy to associate dungeons with castles as the two go together very well. The thing about dungeons is way back then, they weren’t as associated with castles as many people tend to believe. In fact, it was rare for a room to be solely devoted to prisoners and prisoners alone.
Some of the dungeons that people thought were dungeons were simply just used as storerooms all those years back. Prisoners were sometimes kept in dungeons, though, so they were definitely around.
