Especially during those times, soldiers and loyal men needed to be fed well to perform their duties. Well, when most people imagine dancing and feasting going on during the medieval period, they often think about the great hall.
The thing about the great hall that was also prevalent, though, is that people would be seated based on their overall prestige. For those who were able to get a seat close to the lord, it meant good things for their futures.
