[post_page_title]The first line of defense[/post_page_title]
Every castle needed a first line of defense and for most of them, it was the curtain walls. The curtain walls were the outer walls of a castle, and they were designed in a fashion to make it all-but-impossible to penetrate. In addition to their massive height and girthy exterior, they were also made with either stone or brick.
To make them as difficult to climb as possible, smaller rubble was also often rubbed into the mortar. Even the most seasoned of warriors most likely struggled to get past the curtain walls.
