[post_page_title]With moats came drawbridges[/post_page_title]
You just have to love how intelligent people were back in the day when it came to designing castles. After all, if a castle were to have a moat, there had to be a way to get in and out of the castle. A standing bridge wouldn’t have done any good as then invaders would have had free access to the castle.
This led to the implementation of drawbridges, as this allowed the castle defenders the ability to lower and raise them at will. Plus, they would often act as enhanced reinforcements thanks to their rugged designs.
