Talk about a story, this photo almost has a book behind it. So, the photographer who took this shot was Steve McCurry. In 1984, he decided to photograph some refugees in Afghanistan. McCurry ended up taking some shots of some of the children, and then he spotted who you’re seeing here.
It’s a young girl named Sharbat Gula and she was incredibly shy during this time. Hoping he could get a shot of her, he took photos of some of the other girls to see if she would want to join. It worked.
