Historians will know exactly who is photographed here, but most would just see a jazzman playing in Egypt, for whatever reason. What you’re seeing is the great Louis Armstrong, who is one of the most influential jazz musicians of all-time.
Due to his willingness to play his incredible music all over the world, he became an ambassador for United States culture. As for who he’s playing for in this photo, it was his final wife, Lucille Wilson. What a masterful shot, though, with the pyramid in the background.
