For those who use computers on a day-to-day basis, it’s so easy to take for granted what they provide. This photo really puts it in perspective. This is a shot from 1961 of scientists hard at work (before they posed for the picture that is).
The huge chalkboard that you’re seeing behind them was used for calculations and all that good scientific stuff (instead of via computers as they weren’t even close to optimized yet). We certainly don’t envy that way of getting things done.
