Man, are we happy the animators weren’t happy with their first draft of Shrek! That creature on the left looks way less likable than our beloved Shrek.
Apparently the first few drafts had Shrek looking a lot like classic fairytale ogres, that were described as sinister looking and wart-covered. The animators worried a protagonist like that wouldn’t so easily win the audience over (especially the kids). So they gave Shrek a bit of a “makeover”, ensuring he looked like a more modern, less threatening ogre.
