Ogres love mud baths, that’s very much an established truth in the Shrek universe. But to animate mud, and especially how mud looks on a body, that was tricky for the animators back in 2001.
Liquids are hard to animate today too, but back then animation technology wasn’t where it is today. The animators even took mud baths themselves (!) to study what mud behaves like when you interact with it. Talk about sacrificing yourself for your art!
