The Shrek universe is nothing like our world, but we love how the creators of the franchise still managed to make it so relatable. Part of the reason for that is all the real world references they managed to allude to or include in between all the fairytale magic and parodies. Sometimes they’re so subtle only your subconscious noticed.
Check out the main street in Far Far Away, for example. Banana Kingdom, Versarchery, Burger Prince, Tower of London Records, Baskin Robbins? They all sound kind of familiar, yet different, right?
