Shrek does a great job of taking classic fairytales and fairytale characters and twisting them into something dark or ironic, and this is something we see often throughout the movies. But here and there we also see clever references to modern pop culture.
For example here, in Fiona’s bedroom. In the tower where she lived before Shrek came to her rescue, she has a bunch of old posters up on the walls. One of them is of a very handsome “Sir Justin” who looks suspiciously similar to Justin Timberlake.
