It’s normally someone’s responsibility to make sure people at work get something on their birthday. Most of the time, that just means getting them a card or cake. Whoever had that duty in this office must have forgotten all about this person’s birthday, but they thought quickly.
They had a cold slice of pizza for lunch so just threw some candles on top and hoped that no one would even notice. People were denied their share of a sweet cake, but at least this person celebrating their birthday got some pizza!
