There’s been a number of reasons cited for why American bathrooms have large gaps in their doors. Some people think it has to do with discouraging loitering. When there’s a gap in the door people are less likely to hang out in the bathroom, perhaps spending their time doing unscrupulous acts.
Another reason might be due to cleanliness, because dirt is less likely to get stuck if there’s enough room to clean between panels. The reason we’re going with, however, is poor craftsmanship!
