It’s called American exceptionalism, and it may or may not be making us less knowledgeable about other countries — and even our own. Americans receive minimal education about other areas of the world, and travel only shows us small curated portions of other countries.
We’re also taught, at a very young age, that America is special and unique. Unless we make an effort to reach out to other cultures and read foreign news, we’re in the dark about them.
