It feels odd, as an American, to stop at a 7-Eleven in a city without a homeless person in the front. Yes, that’s a sad fact. People might see America as the land of plenty, but for a lot of people in the US all that “plenty” is out of reach.
When someone has 10 in their garage and another person doesn’t even have shoes, something’s wrong with the picture. It’s a tragic reality, but even America’s tropical paradise — Hawaii — has a large homeless population.
