[post_page_title]Anthony Hopkins – Coleman Silk (The Human Stain)[/post_page_title]
The Human Stain, based on the novel of the same name, deals with uncomfortable issues. When a big-screen adaptation was released in 2003, it dealt with even more uncomfortable issues – though not necessarily intentionally. Both book and movie center around Coleman Silk, a college professor who’s fired from his teaching position due to comments perceived as racist.
It’s only later that the twist is revealed – Silk himself is black, and has been passing as Jewish for most of his adult life. The decision to cast Anthony Hopkins for the role of a light-skinned black man was baffling, to say the least.
