[post_page_title]Mena Suvari – Brandi Boski (Stuck)[/post_page_title]
2007’s Stuck had a humdinger of a story about a woman who strikes a man with her car and leaves him to perish embedded in her windshield. Based on true events, the woman in question was black. So naturally, even when the protagonist’s a reprehensible criminal, she has to be white. Mena Suvari was cast in the lead, but it seems like her ethnicity was the only thing changed.
Her character, Brandi, seems to only have black friends, and she sports cornrows, a hairstyle heavily associated with African-American culture. Suvari’s reasoning – “establis Brandi as a particular kind of girl from a particular place” – makes it even more perplexing.
