[post_page_title]Multiple actors – multiple characters (Exodus: Gods And Kings)[/post_page_title]
Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods and Kings was a biblical epic that seemed to take epic pains to not cast a single person of Middle-Eastern descent. We had Englishman Christian Bale as Moses, Australian Joel Edgerton as Ramses, Italian-American John Turturro as Seti, and American with strong European roots Sigourney Weaver as his wife Tuya.
In fact, the only actual Middle Easterners played either servants or villains. When an online campaign to boycott the movie trended, Scott was far from apologetic, saying that without these deliberate choices the movie would’ve never been financed. Having the lead be “Mohammad so-and-so,” he claimed, would’ve meant no money and no movie.
