The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action adaptation of the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated show, has committed too many sins to mention. The worst, however, was inexplicably changing all the protagonists’ races – to white. Aang, the titular Last Airbender, had a Tibetan-like origin. Siblings Katara and Sokka, meanwhile, came from an Inuit-like tribe.
In the movie, all three were played by white actors. In fact, this adaptation of a show with a completely Asian-like cast only had one character played by an actor of actual Asian descent – villain Prince Zuko, played by Dev Patel! Even then, originally Zuko was to be played by a white actor…
