During that scene in Imagination Land, when they are trying to build a house of cards, there is more to those cards than first meets the eye. Riley’s face card is her own separate class, whereas her parents are the king and queen. This symbolizes how Riley, as a pre-teen, views her family dynamic.
It’s classic to rebel and feel like you’re different from your parents when you’re a teen, it’s part of the process to become your own person. The house of card collapsing is another hint at the turmoil and conflict Riley is experiencing with her parents.
