Inside Out is so filled with details, and also many short scenes in rapid succession in the beginning of the movie, that this detail was easy to miss.
Bing Bong is Riley’s imaginary friend, and when we first meet him the movie it’s not actually the first time. During the first few minutes of the movie, as we see the fast forward version of Riley’s childhood, we see a toddler Riley drawing Bing Bong on the wall. She even says his name, but it’s hard to make out.
