Even though Inside Out gets most scientific facts right, the writers and animators had to take a few liberties to tie it all together. It’s an animated family movie after all, it’s supposed to be entertaining and at least somewhat fantastical.
The maybe biggest departure from science, is the fact that they skipped a basic emotion. You could of course argue the amount of basic emotions we have are up for debate, but the general consensus is six; anger, joy, sadness, disgust, fear, and surprise. Surprise, for whatever reason, didn’t make the cut.
