The 2015 Pixar masterpiece Inside Out is one of the most complex, innovative, and touching movies to come out of the animation studio in the past couple of decades. It’s the classic coming of age story like we’ve never seen it before, filled with rich symbolism, creative details, and plenty of Easter eggs that make the watching experience even better.

Inside Out takes place mostly inside the young girl Riley’s head, and the five basic emotions in there that rule her everyday experiences. Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust all have their own solid colors – but Joy is the exception.
Whereas Anger is red, sadness is blue, and so on, Joy has a yellow skin tone. But, she also has blue hair and a faint blue aura around her. This is a hint at one of the beautiful realizations in the movie – that joy can’t exist without sadness.
