We’ve all seen those really awful stories where someone gets a tattoo or buys a shirt with some Japanese or Chinese character on it, thinking it means something like “love,” or “family,” only to find out that it’s either a swear word or something like “spicy pork.” It’s disheartening, especially when it’s a tattoo.
However, it’s almost a comfort to know that this happens in other countries with phrases in English too. We’re a little surprised that no one stopped her, but it’s not really a shock that people aren’t familiar with English in places that don’t speak English.
