The plot for the original Avengers movie was ambitious enough as it is, acting as a team-up movie for characters who first appeared in their own standalone films. The movie’s villain is Loki, who uses an army of Chitauri aliens to invade Earth.
He procures that army through the mysterious Chitauri leader, the Other (an original MCU creation), in return for procuring the Tesseract. Finally, in the movie’s mid-credits scene, we see who the Other’s boss is – Thanos, making his first on-screen appearance, played by Damion Poitier. Of course, Poitier would later be replaced by Josh Brolin.
