How fitting that one of Hollywood’s coolest actors, Harry Dean Stanton, had one of Marvel’s coolest cameos. In a scene from The Avengers that resembles a Coen Brothers movie more than a Marvel one, an unclothed Bruce Banner wakes up in a wreckage after the Hulk went on another rampage.
He’s greeted by a security guard, played by the late Stanton, who’s completely unfazed by what just happened. According to director Joss Whedon, Stanton facilitated the mental transition that allowed Banner to be a hero again. The cameo was scored through the movie’s director of photography, who was shooting a documentary about Stanton’s life at the time.
