To truly appreciate David Hasselhoff’s Guardians of the Galaxy cameo, we have to go way back. Growing up, writer/director James Gunn was a fan of Knight Rider, Hasselhoff’s iconic show. So, when he started writing Guardians, he always envisioned Hasselhoff being Peter Quill’s hero.
In Guardians Vol. 2, we learn Quill told friends his dad wasn’t around because he actually WAS David Hasselhoff, who was busy touring in Germany or filming Knight Rider. Quill’s real father turns out to be Ego, and when the two have it out Ego mocks his son by transforming into the Hoff.
