Thanks to the career John Lennon had with The Beatles, the Englishman was one of the most famous people in the world at the time of his passing. The man in this photograph is the person who caused the end of the musician’s life after shooting the star just hours later.
Lennon is signing an autograph for Mark David Chapman, not knowing that when he returned to his hotel later that day, he would shoot him. After the attack, Chapman just sat by Lennon’s body, waiting for the police.
