The very first words we hear in TFATWS aren’t original dialogue, but a conversation Sam had with Steve in Avengers: Endgame. After returning from his trip through time placing the Infinity Stones back in their rightful places, Steve – now an old gentleman – places his shield in Sam’s care.
Inviting him to try it on, he asks, “How does it feel?” Sam replies, “Like it’s someone else’s.” This telegraphs Sam’s entire TFATWS arc, first rejecting and finally coming to terms with Steve’s choice. Just one cool continuity detail to top it off – the bag Sam carries Steve’s shield in is the same one Steve gave him in Endgame.
