Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine makes her MCU début in the show’s fifth episode, and then pops in during the season finale to bestow the title of U.S. Agent on John Walker. She’s played by comedy legend Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in a portrayal that doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the show’s tone, but de Fontaine’s roots run deep.
First appearing in 1967 as a spy working alongside Nick Fury, she was also a sleeper agent for the Leviathan group before becoming Madame Hydra. It’s also been rumored she was supposed to début in Black Widow’s movie, but that’s been pushed back to later in 2021.
