When TFATWS opens, Sam’s working missions for the Air Force with the help of a liaison, intelligence officer Joaquín Torres. After his fight with Walker in episode five, which leaves him with literally broken wings, Sam takes Cap’s shield and returns to his family home in Louisiana.
When Torres points out that he left his wings with him, Sam says, “Keep ’em.” This moment may not seem like much, unless you know that in the comics Sam also became Captain America… and his new Falcon was none other than Joaquín Torres. While comic and TV Torres’s origin stories are different, the implication is clear.
