Many theories have been thrown around as to the real identity of Stan Lee in the Marvel Universe. One theory that has been proposed is that every Stan Lee cameo we see in the movies is actually the same character, one of the Watchers. The Watchers are a race of aliens in the Marvel comics who watch over the whole universe.
According to the theory, Stan watches over earth. This theory was later confirmed, when James Gunn placed Stan Lee with the Watchers during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as he tells his companions about his cameo during Captain America: Civil War.
