Piers didn’t appreciate being called out by his guest on twitter, and bit back, refusing to apologize. Maybe he didn’t understand that what he said was harmful, but the tone soon became pretty disrespectful.
Perhaps Piers really just felt like he was stating a fact, and not making a judgment. Either way, he tweeted that he had never before been treated so disrespectfully by a guest and said he regrets ever inviting Janet on his show.
